Joseph Heil began working as a plumber in 1956. In 1977 Joseph and Miriam Heil started the Joseph Heil Company, Registered Plumbers. Over the years the business expanded from basic residential work into commercial and industrial jobs, and into radiant heating and solar hot water installations.

In 1990 Edward Heil returned to the business after his father had a heart attack. The firm continued to grow under family leadership and added licensed services like backflow prevention and stationary engineering work.
