General Plumbing opened in October 1982 at the corner of Sunset Drive and SW 117 Ave, before the TJ Maxx plaza was built. Jim and Monica Kleb started the retail store selling repair parts and fixtures and offering installations. The company later added a large showroom and expanded service offerings.

Today the business operates from a warehouse east of Tamiami Airport. While the showroom closed, the company kept its service roots and continues to provide repair, installation, and emergency work across the region.
